A possibility to increase the efficiency of plant regeneration from microspore-derived embryos of selected botanical varieties of Brassica oleracea was investigated from 2001 to 2004. More than 400 regenerants of R<sub>1 </sub>generation were derived in kohlrabi, cabbage and cauliflower by means of different modifications of microspore culture technique. Distinct genotype differences in embryogenic responsibility and regenerative ability of microspore embryos to whole plants were detected. The highest frequency of embryogenesis and subsequent regeneration of plants were achieved in cauliflower cultivar Siria F1, kohlrabi line P7 and some experimental F1 hybrids of cauliflower. The best production of embryos was obtained when donor plants were grown in the growth chamber under controlled light and temperature conditions. The regeneration of plantlets was considerably improved by repeated subculture of cotyledonary embryos on media with various combinations of phytohormones and excision of the cotyledons from mature embryos. The percentage of plant regeneration from subcultured embryos in kohlrabi ranged from 11.11 to 63.64%, in cauliflower from 23.53 to 46.19% and in cabbage from 5.88 to 52.00%. The utilization of regenerants for doubled haploid line production is often complicated by male sterility also in plants with the normal diploid chromosome number. &nbsp; &nbsp;

AbstractIn Brassica oleracea, heterosis is one of the most efficient tools giving impetus to hybrid vegetable industry. In this context, we presented the first report on identifying superior heterotic crosses for yield and commercial traits in cauliflower involving cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) and doubled haploid (DH) lines as parents. We studied the suitability of SSR and EST-SSRs based genetic distance (GD) and morphological markers based phenotypic distance (PD) in prediction of heterosis when DH based genotypes are used as parents in developing F1 hybrids. Overall 120 F1 hybrids derived from twenty Ogura cybrid CMS lines and six DH based testers were evaluated for 16 phenotypic traits along with their 26 parental lines and 4 commercial standard checks, in 10 × 15 alpha lattice design. The genomic SSR and EST-SSRs based genetic structure analysis grouped 26 parental lines into 4 distinct clusters. The CMS lines Ogu118-6A, Ogu33A, Ogu34-1A were good general combiner for developing short duration hybrids. The SCA effects were significantly associated with heterosis suggesting non-additive gene effects for heterotic response of hybrids. Less than unity value of σ2A/D coupled with σ2gca/σ2scaindicated the predominance of non-additive gene action in the expression of studied traits. The genetic distance estimates among 26 parents ranged from 0.44 to 0.98 and were significantly associated with heterosis for important commercial traits, suggesting the utility of microsatellite based genetic distance in prediction of heterosis in B. oleracea.

ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to determine the interaction between guano walet administration and reduction of SP-36 fertilizer on growth and yield of flower cabbage; to find out the effect of guano walet on the growth and yield of flower cabbage; and to find out the effect of SP-36 fertilizer reduction on growth and yield of flower cabbage. The study was conducted from May to August 2018. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 2 factors namely guano walet with a reduction in SP-36 fertilizer, 4 x 4 factorial pattern with 3 replications. The variables observed were the number of leaves, flowering age, plant wet weight, fresh weight of flowers, and diameter of flower crop. The results showed that the combination of 100% guano walet administration with a reduction of SP-36 0% on spodosol soil gave the best results for the number of leaves with an average value of 16.00 strands at 6 weeks after planting and fresh flower weight of 166, 76 g. Guano walet administration on spodosol soil with a dose of 100% gave the best results on the number of leaves by 25.83 strands at the age of 9 weeks after planting, flowering age of 79.33 day, plant wet weight of 326.82 g and the results showed that the combination of 100% guano walet administration with a reduction of SP-36 0% gave the best results for the diameter of flower cropwith an average value of 12,15 cm.Key words: cabbage flower, guano walet, SP-36 fertilizer, spodosolsABSTRAKTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui interaksi antara pemberian guano walet dengan pengurangan pupuk SP-36 terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil kubis bunga; untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian guano walet terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil kubis bunga; dan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pengurangan pupuk SP-36 terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil kubisbunga.Penelitian dilaksanakan mulai dari bulan Mei sampai Agustus 2018. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 2 faktor, yaitu pemberian guano walet dengan pengurangan pupuk SP-36, pola faktorial 4 x 4 dengan 3 ulangan. Variabel yang diamati adalah jumlah daun, umur berbunga, bobot segar total tanaman, bobot segar bunga, dan diameter krop bunga. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi pemberian guano walet 100% dengan pengurangan SP-36 0% pada tanah spodosol memberikan hasil terbaik jumlah daun dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 16,00 helai tanaman-1 pada umur 6 minggu setelah tanam dan bobot segar bunga 166,76 g tanaman-1. Pemberian guano walet pada tanah spodosol dengan dosis 100% memberikan hasil terbaik terhadap jumlah daun sebesar 25,83 helai tanaman-1 pada umur 9 minggu setelah tanam, umur munculnya bunga pada hari ke- 79,33, bobot segar total tanaman sebesar 326,82 g tanaman-1dan pada variabel diameter krop bunga pemberian guano 50% dengan pengurangan pupuk SP-36 0% memberikan hasil sebesar 12,15 cm tanaman-1.Kata kunci: Guano walet, kubis bunga, pupuk SP-36, tanah spodosol

Aedes aegypti, dengue fever mosquito, is primarily associated with the transmission of dengue in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The present investigations was carried out to assess the larvicidal efficacy of aqueous and ethanol leaf extract of Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L against 4th instar larvae of  Ae.aegypti. The concentration of extracts prepared from the leaf of plant Brassica oleracea var.botrytis L. were screened for their larvicidal activity against early fourth instars of dengue vector. The mortality rate of Ae.aegypti against aqueous and ethanol extracts of B.oleracea as follows 72% and 96%. Ethanol extract exposed to IVth larvae of Ae.aegypti is more efficiency than the aqueous extract. The present investigation suggest the possible use B. oleracea L. as an agent for the control of dengue vector, A. aegypti.
